Fellowship End-of-Year Reflections

As we come to the close of another remarkable year, it is fitting to pause and reflect on the milestones, progress, and collective achievements that continue to shape our fellowship and our specialty.
First and foremost, congratulations to the Class of 2026. We were thrilled to celebrate your graduation at the AAGL Congress in Vancouver, where the outstanding turnout reflected both the strength of our community and the significance of this accomplishment. The atmosphere was filled with celebration, and there was a great sense of achievement and pride among our graduates. We eagerly look forward to witnessing the impact our graduates will make as they embark on the next chapter of their careers.
This year’s AAGL Congress was also marked by several exciting and meaningful discussions. Among the most notable was the official transition of our fellowship name from FMIGS (Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery) to CBG (Complex Benign Gynecology) Fellowship—a change that more accurately reflects the scope, expertise, and identity of our field. A special thanks to Dr. Advincula, our ABOG Taskforce chair, for leading the name change initiative, and for Dr. Anderson, our AAGL President, for commemorating this moment with CBG pins that served as a memorable and visible announcement of this evolution.
In addition, we announced plans to transition fellowship applications to the CAS application system with signaling, an important step forward in modernizing our application process. We plan to host a webinar about CAS applications and signaling in February when fellowship applications open—more to come. We also received insightful updates from the Education Taskforce regarding a comprehensive revamp of the fellowship education curriculum, as well as updates from our numerous committees, highlighting the ongoing work being done behind the scenes and on the frontlines to advance our mission.
Hearing these updates made it especially clear how far we have come over the past few years. It has truly been an honor to serve on the fellowship board during this period of growth and transformation. I can honestly say every effort, vision, and initiative has been a team effort and a genuine labor of love, driven by a shared commitment to excellence and progress.
As we look ahead, I encourage others to join us on this journey—helping to build and shape our fellowship and our specialty into something even greater for future generations.
With much gratitude and optimism for what is ahead.
