In Remembrance of Dr. David Redwine
A respected colleague, valued member of the AAGL, and pioneer of endometriosis excision surgery, Dr. David Redwine, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, October 23, 2022.
Dr. Redwine was the former Director of the Institute of Endometriosis at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, and a renowned endometriosis specialist who made integral contributions to the understanding and surgical treatment of endometriosis. His extensive research addressed misconceptions about endometriosis’ origin and treatment. Through his theory of Mulleriosis, he believed in a genetically driven embryonic origin of endometriosis. This made him a vocal advocate for the aggressive excision of endometriosis and abandonment of expensive medical treatment of symptoms, thus solidifying him as a true pioneer of endometriosis excision surgery and a champion for women’s healthcare.
Dr. Redwine was a former Chair of the AAGL Endometriosis Special Interest Group and made significant contributions as postgraduate course faculty, Associate Editor of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology (JMIG) 1994-1996, Trustee of the AAGL 1994-1995, and Editor of NewsScope 1995-1998. He was a respected colleague, friend, advocate for women’s health, and innovator in minimally invasive gynecological surgery. The heartfelt condolences of the AAGL association are with his family, friends, and colleagues, he will be missed.
