SurgeryU: Overview of 2023
Since taking on the role of SurgeryU Editor-in-Chief in January, SurgeryU has made leaps and bounds of improvements. The board initially met monthly, undertaking a complete restructuring of SurgeryU. Together we crafted a 3-year strategic plan, complete with a new mission statement.
Mission:
Our mission is to provide world-class, peer-reviewed surgical videography to educate the global gynecological surgery community. Our curated content, reviewed and created by surgeons for surgeons, aims to enhance surgical care and improve women’s health outcomes. By offering a comprehensive platform that combines innovative techniques, expert insights, and collaborative learning, we empower surgeons to deliver the highest level of care.
Over the summer, the new and improved SurgeryU website was built from the ground up. All videos from the previous website have been transferred, and the categorization and searchability have improved dramatically. We’ve introduced channels for each special interest group and much more. Stay tuned for the creation of residency and fellowship curriculum playlists, in addition to the top videos from global congresses from years past.
Additionally, the SurgeryU board has created new submission guidelines to encourage increased submissions. We now accept both the traditional 7-minute format and the new “short” 3-minute format submissions.
Lastly, SurgeryU had a huge success with the inaugural Mind of a Surgeon video contest! We received over 25 submissions, with Dr. Liron Bar-El from Cleveland Clinic Ohio taking home first place for her video, “Hysteroscopic Resection of FIGO Type 3 Fibroids – The Uterine Deflation Technique.” Visit the SurgeryU Shorts channel to watch this winning submission and many more!
The success of the Mind of a Surgeon contest was such a hit that we are pivoting to the 2024 year with a fellowship-only version that will align with March Madness. Submissions will be due on March 1, 2024, so fellows, start recording and share your slam dunk surgical moments!
