Donald L. Chatman, M.D. (1934-2018)
Friends and colleagues were saddened to learn of the passing on February 22nd of the AAGL’s 13th President (1987-1988), Donald L. Chatman. Dr. Chatman received an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. His residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was at Michael Reese Medical Center following his service to his country as a Captain in the Medical Corp of the Unites States Air Force.
Dr. Chatman practiced for over 3 decades in Chicago at Michael Reese, South Chicago Community Hospital, Provident Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. His primary area of interest was endometriosis and pelvic pain. He had a quiet and soft spoken demeanor which made him a natural leader. He was both Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michael Reese and twice Vice-Chairman of the department. Dr. Chatman was Clinical Associate Professor at Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Chatman, his three children, Lynn Todman, Eleanor Chatman, and Eric Chatman; two stepsons Carl Golden and Bruce Golden; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. We will miss his presence at the AAGL Annual Meetings and remain thankful for the early contributions that he made to the AAGL.
