AAGL’s 2023 Strategic Plan
Dear Members of AAGL,
As we begin a new year, I am pleased to present to you the AAGL 2023 Strategic Plan. Our Board of Directors met in 2022 to develop this plan and identified three priority, strategic initiatives that will advance our organization in education, research, and marketing.
Our vision for education is for AAGL to be recognized as the “go-to” society for cutting-edge knowledge and high-value networking, with standards and guidelines that shape the industry. To achieve this vision, we will continue to recruit expert faculty who represent our global membership. Our 2023 Scientific Program Committee is developing a scientific program for the Global Congress that showcases the latest developments in MIGS and promotes networking opportunities among our members. We are also using our international webinar series to further promote quality education and reach a global audience.
Last year, we launched AAGL Connect, a platform where members can easily ask questions, share information, and connect with each other. This year, we will continue to promote AAGL Connect and encourage members to utilize this highly effective networking resource. In addition, the AAGL Practice Guidelines Committee, led by Dr. Rosanne Kho, is continuing to research and compose standards in our field. A new practice guideline for “Minimizing Blood Loss During Laparoscopic Myomectomy” will be published later this year.
Our second initiative is to advance research by fostering ongoing, high-quality research that will lead to new data, greater insights, more publications, and ultimately an AAGL that has grown in credibility and influence. To achieve this goal, we are developing a Research Task Force commissioned to develop a cohesive AAGL research strategy coupled with a robust research infrastructure. Once established, this task force will expand our research funding base, develop a robust database, and establish and support a curriculum for clinical research.
Our third initiative, marketing, is to further develop an AAGL that has an easily accessible, relevant, tech savvy digital presence with online platforms whose global reach and clarity of voice establish AAGL as the top organization in the market. Last year, we made great strides in this initiative by modernizing the AAGL website. This year, we will continue to fine tune this platform to attract more participation and improve accessibility. We will also begin updating AAGL’s MIS for Women patient website and the Foundation of the AAGL website. AAGL has increased its social media presence by adding additional staff to oversee that effort. In this year, we will continue to develop that presence, with a global vision in mind, to increase traffic on our social media and websites, create a greater sense of community, and add new members from around the world.
AAGL is a diverse and inclusive organization that is the association of choice for minimally invasive gynecological surgeons worldwide. Through the delivery of globally accessible, high-quality education, groundbreaking research, and the utilization of platforms which support, and effortlessly market, evidence-based practices, AAGL will significantly improve the quality of life for women, regardless of geographical location or boundaries.
Through progress in these initiatives, AAGL will grow in influence and attract, educate, and inspire more minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons worldwide, thereby shaping the future of MIGS.
