The JMIG Team Changed, But the Quality Won’t!
The Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (JMIG) is the academic flagship of the AAGL. After a decade leading JMIG to incredible heights, we bid farewell to the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Tommaso Falcone, along with several of the Executive Editorial Board, some of whom have served with him since the very beginning, 10 years ago.
We are proud to report that this team has been responsible for increasing the Impact Factor over the last ten years from 1.575 in 2013 to its current factor of 4.1. JMIG continues to be a top quartile journal, which means that it is considered in the top 25% of highest-ranking journals in the field of Ob Gyn. It currently ranks at 16 out of 85 Ob Gyn Journals, up two rankings from last year.
To Dr. Falcone, we share our deepest gratitude for not just leading by example but bringing the team with you. Other “crew” leaving the ship are Dr. Rosanne Kho, Dr. Antonio Setubal, Dr. David Boruta and Dr. Jeffrey Wilson. All have been invaluable contributors to the Journal, but more importantly have become friends to us during their tenure. We have shared an amazing experience and we wish them a fond adieu.
As the new Co-Editors-in-Chief, we take the bridge of this ship when the seas are calm, the vessel is strong, and it is carving its way through seas so cleanly. Looking forward, we are excited to introduce the team for this next five years. Staying with us are Linda Michels, Managing Editor and Andrea Bocelli, Josh Smith, and Amanda Mordecai from our Publishing and Editorial Content Management teams. Also staying is Dr. Mireille Truong who steps into the new role of Deputy Editor of Social Media. Dr. Truong’s guidance has been key to reaching the next generation of surgical talent and making sure our range is as far and wide as possible.
We also welcome new team members Dr. Amanda (Mandy) Yunker, Deputy Editor Education; Dr. Dario Roque, Deputy Editor Subspecialties; Dr. Sawsan (Suzie) As-Sanie, Deputy Editor Research Integrity; Dr. Adrianne Dade, Deputy Editor Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Dr. Michael Wynn-Williams, Deputy Editor Video Media; and Dr. Carla Tomassetti, Deputy Editor International. Our new Statistical Editors are Dr. Anna Maria Ortega-Villa and Dr. Joseph Bible. Together we plan to not just keep the ship on course, but to chart new waters, visit new destinations, and continue frequenting the most popular ports.
Our philosophy is simple: continue to deliver academic excellence in minimally invasive gynecology. Our team has been considered with diversity at the forefront of our mind to reflect the global membership of the AAGL, the readership, and the clinicians in this field. You will note a number of new positions to guide the Journal into the future. These positions maintain best-practices while allowing for exploration of new opportunities in education, awareness, and translation of academic minimally invasive gynecologic information.
In addition to the Executive Editorial Team, we note the continuing importance of the Journal’s trusted and respected Editorial Board. Over 100 strong, the Editorial Board supports and advises the Executive Team. The Editorial Board have been the engine room of the Journal’s Review and Advice Team and represent highly specialized fields, essential in any modern, high impact Journal. We are always looking for new members to join the Editorial Board. Each year, reviewers who are the most consistent, timely, and who aid the Executive Team in important decision-making procedures, are invited to join the Editorial Board.
The departure horn has sounded, the gangway has been retracted, and we have set sail. Whether the seas are smooth or choppy, we will guide this ship to the best of our ability with the support of an incredible team of colleagues who have already been all hands-on deck. Thank you to the AAGL for putting your trust in us. Now it is time to polish everything until it gleams and be prepared for all adventures to come.
