Highlights from the 2024 Celebration of MIGS Gala
Last year, the Foundation of the AAGL Board of Directors moved the Awards Ceremony from the General Session to an evening of elegance to honor and celebrate our award winners. It was a huge success, and we were so thankful for the support.
In 2024, the Foundation Board pushed the limits even further and turned the Awards Ceremony into a Fundraiser Gala to benefit our Global Outreach programs supporting three of the Foundation’s four Pillars – Education, Global Outreach and Mentorship!
This year, thanks to all our attendees, we not only exceeded our expectations, but you helped us go above and beyond what we could ever imagine!
Here’s a few highlights from the evening:
- Over 400+ attendees (record breaking!)
- Approximately $85k (and, counting) donated!
- A generous donation of hysteroscopy equipment/tower from Richard Wolf for two of our Global Outreach projects: The Hem Practice (Kenya) and The McKinney Foundation (Grenada). THANK YOU!
- Partnerships were formed with several industry representatives interested in supporting our Global Outreach programs.
- We received a large commitment from Intuitive to support the Javier Magrina, MD, Award for the next ten years!
- Received acknowledgement and support, by video, from Dickon Mitchell, the Prime Minister of Grenada. Since he was unable to attend in person, his Chief of Staff, Andrea St. Bernard, joined us in celebration to support the fundraising for The McKinney Foundation.
- A special shout out to our Jordan Phillips Award winner, Katie Kwon, a resident at NYU Langone. Katie is one of the first residents to win this award. Great work Katie!
- We announced the winners, ‘Oscar Style’ for our prestigious Noteworthy Awards:
- Nicole Donnellan, MD – Barbara Levy, MD, AchieveHER Award
- Paul Magtibay, MD – Javier Magrina, MD, Excellence in Robotics Award
- Shailesh Puntambekar, MD, PhD – John Steege, MD, Excellence in Mentorship Award
Congratulations to all our Noteworthy Award winners on their commitment to excellence and their outstanding achievements!
Congratulations to all our award winners!
Many people are asking to see the award-winning presentation by our Golden Laparoscope winner, Dr. Peter Rosenblatt, titled: “Laparoscopic Cerclage Sacrohysteropexy for Uterine Prolapse.” This video along with other content from the Global Congress will be available to all registrants by December 19th. Congratulations, Peter!
Due to the overwhelming popularity of our surgical observerships, it has been requested to keep the online auction bidding open until the end of the year. There were many people who were unable to bid and requested an opportunity to bid on these packages. In addition, we have two additional ‘experiences’ available for bidding – New Orleans and Eagles Concert at the Sphere. For links, please see the AAGL MIGS Monthly.
If you couldn’t attend the AAGL 2024 Congress in person and are considering a donation and/or have any questions about donating, please contact clovret@aagl.org for more information. We are extremely proud of the work we have accomplished this past year and are excited to see what the future holds! Together, we will continue to make a difference by empowering progress in MIGS worldwide.
In 2024, the Foundation of the AAGL set a goal of $500,000 to raise funds to support the four pillars of our mission:
- Education
- Mentorship
- Global Outreach
- Patient Advocacy
We are close to reaching our goal but need your support. Please consider donating today! Please visit our website to donate.
With deepest gratitude,
Vadim Morozov, MD
President, The Foundation of the AAGL
