FMIGS Reflections
2024 is a wrap! As we conclude this year, I want to take a moment to reflect on what a distinct honor it has been to serve as the FMIGS Board President. Leading such an engaged and energetic Board has resulted in numerous accomplishments and meaningful progress. I have learned so much from all of you, and I am deeply grateful for the growth, experiences, and friendships we’ve cultivated together. This leadership experience has been uniquely grounded in service, and I have not encountered anything quite like it throughout my professional career. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Board for your guidance, courage, and unwavering commitment to advancing both our fellowship and the field at large. I look forward to remaining engaged as Past President and serving diligently, just as those who came before me. Dr. Hye Chun Hur has taken the baton and will undoubtedly move us leaps and bounds in 2025!
This year, MIGS has solidified its position as the most competitive postgraduate training program in OBGYN. In the 2024 cycle, we received 81 applications for 50 positions across 44 sites, which speaks volumes about our significance in the field. Under Dr. Arnie Advincula’s leadership, we continue to work towards acquiring MIGS/Complex Benign Gynecology recognition through our Accreditation Taskforce, in partnership with ABOG, to contribute substantial content for our subspecialty acknowledgment. We anticipate additional positive updates in 2025!
AAGL was a tremendous success as well. The Fellowship Bootcamp buzzed with activity, featuring four educational programs on chronic pelvic pain, radiofrequency ablation techniques, suturing, and vaginal natural orifice surgery. We had 117 fellows, and 40 faculty participate, culminating in a spirited Dr. Charles Koh suturing competition that showcased the impressive skills of our learners.
Finally, I want to offer my warmest congratulations to the Class of 2024. The graduation ceremony remains my personal highlight of the conference. It marks not only the grand finale of years of hard work and dedication, but also the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our future colleagues. Supporting the development of our emerging leaders of the AAGL is vital to our ongoing success, and the FMIGS Board will continue to partner with YAN, the AAGL Board and the AAGL Foundation in this growth.
Wishing you all a wonderful season ahead!
