Mind of a Surgeon March Madness Announcement
And the winner is… CEDARS-SINAI!
Over the past three weeks, a thrilling competition has unfolded on the SurgeryU Instagram account, @surgeryu_aagl, featuring 20 FMIGS Fellowships from across the world. The call for submissions for the “Mind of a Surgeon March Madness” began at the 2023 FMIGS Bootcamp. Each fellowship was asked to submit a short 3–4-minute video focusing on surgical techniques.
The tournament brackets were randomly assigned during an Instagram Live Event, leading to 22 head-to-head fellowship challenges. Winners were determined through Instagram Polls. The championship final showcased “Tackling the Deeply Embedded IUD” from Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, United States, against “Uterine Extraction Using the PH-FEVE Technique” from TecSalud in Monterrey, Mexico. The nail-biting finish saw Cedars-Sinai emerge victorious with 517 votes against TecSalud’s 474 votes during the very last hours!
The Cedars-Sinai Fellowship will be awarded an incredible trophy as a memento of their outstanding work and success in this competition.
We extend our gratitude to Columbia University, UCR, Prisma, Kaleida, UConn, UPMC, Henry Ford, Northwell, Cedars-Sinai, Indiana, Einstein, Advocate Lutheran, NYU, Penn State, University of Louisville, Legacy Health, TecSalud, Virginia Mason, UCLA, and UT-Chattanooga for their participation in this educational event. Your contributions have helped to showcase amazing surgical skills around the world!
Finally, we thank all AAGL members for following this March Madness “Mind of a Surgeon” event and making it an outstanding success.
