We Value Your Input: Join the Coding Committee

The AAGL Coding Committee, led by Chair, Dr. Jon Hathaway, is tasked with bringing new coding rules, regulations, and pertinent items to the membership. It also vetsβ requests from industry and members for new codes needed for instrumentation or procedures.
As a medical society that is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates, the AAGL is eligible to appoint a Physician Representative and an Alternate Representative to the AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (RUC) Advisory Committee. Dr. Nichole Mahnert has accepted the position of AAGL Physician Representative. Currently, we are seeking an Alternate Physician Representative Position.
The Alternate Physician Representative attends all meetings that Dr. Mahnert is unable to attend and with her, stays up to speed on the activities of the AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (RUC) Advisory Committee. The AAGL Physician Representative will attend the RUC meetings three times a year, roughly 15 nights a year, and is likely to become a liaison to ACOGβs Coding and Health Economics Committee (a virtual role). As this position takes an approximate four-year learning curve and then ongoing service on ACOGβs committee, the individuals who accept the positions of Physician Representative and Alternate Physician Representative serve for approximately a decade or more. Without that level of commitment, the effectiveness of participation would be jeopardized. We are looking for an individual who has a passion for the importance of this work, flexibility to shadow as the alternate, and a willingness to dedicate their attention to this role for an extended period.
AAGL members are invited to submit their interest by emailing Kathy McMahon at kmcmahon@aagl.org.
