FAAGL Supports Fundraising Effort for Colombia Following Earthquake
Following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, the Foundation of the AAGL (FAAGL) is actively fundraising to assist affected colleagues as recovery efforts begin across the region.
Among those impacted are members of the AAGL Complex Benign Gynecology Fellowship (CBGF) in Colombia, a joint program of Algia, Clínica Comfamiliar in Pereira, and Clínica del Prado in Medellín. This program, the first AAGL-endorsed international CBGF site outside the United States and Canada, trains Fellows in both cities.
While both locations were affected, Dr. Juan Diego Villegas-Echeverri, Program Director, reported that the Fellowship site in Pereira sustained significant damage to its facilities and equipment. The Fellowship site is working to restore services as quickly as possible.
All Fellows, faculty, and their families are safe and in good health. Despite the disruption, the Fellowship community continues to adapt. Faculty and Fellows have reorganized rotations to keep their training on track and remain committed to attending the AAGL 55th Global Congress in Boston this November.
