The Official Launch of EMIGS
AAGL’s Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (EMIGS) program has officially launched! To learn more or register, visit AAGL’s EMIGS website. EMIGS for Residents includes a three-year subscription to the EMIGS Didactics program and the Cognitive and Manual Skills examinations. This subscription maximizes flexibility and access for residents, allowing three years from the date of purchase to take the exams. In addition, both the Cognitive and Manual Skills Exams are administered virtually which eliminates the need to travel and or take time away. The three pillars of EMIGS have been developed by Gyn educators for Gyn trainees and surgeons. Both exams have been validated and the standards have been set specifically for our OB GYN residents.
In the first month of registration, EMIGS had 193 residents register for the program. In addition, 80 new ACGME accredited OBGYN residency programs have requested their complimentary LaparoBowl kit. This brings EMIGS’ total participating residency programs to 208 sites, already surpassing expectations for our rollout year! Currently, hundreds of residents are now practicing EMIGS skills on the proprietary LaparoBowl, simulating the environment of the pelvic cavity!
In the coming months, stay tuned for the continued efforts of the EMIGS Steering Committee. In collaboration with AAGL staff, EMIGS is now deployed to approximately 200 of the 300 residency sites with plans to expand nationally, and internationally, in the future.
AAGL will have an EMIGS booth at the upcoming CREOG and APGO Annual Meeting in National Harbor, MD, February 27-March 1, 2023. Stop by and see the LaparoBowl in action! The EMIGS program would not be possible without the ongoing support of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). In January, ABOG announced the official launch of EMIGS as an option for candidates to meet the Surgical Skills Program standard for ABOG certification. After many years of development, EMIGS is truly one of the AAGL’s crowning achievements. We give our sincere thanks to the EMIGS Steering Committee, the nine AAGL Boards who held the vision, and the AAGL staff who contributed to its completion.
