JMIG 2024: Our Vision for Innovation and the Future
We have been Co-Editors-in-Chief for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (JMIG) since July of 2023 and are increasingly excited about our future!
As we build upon our already strong foundation, a number of initiatives have already come to fruition. Our Social Media presence continues to excel with consistent annual increases in the number of followers across multiple platforms, the training of another class of Social Media Scholars, and multiple projects which both enhance our outreach and educate our community.
We appreciate the critical role our reviewers play in the process. Our “Reviewer Spotlight” feature highlights the key to JMIG’s success: our outstanding JMIG reviewers! Each spotlight consists of an interview with a JMIG reviewer letting you get to know them as well as sharing their favorite manuscript reviewing tips!
In addition to annually recognizing our top Editorial Board reviewers and our top Ad Hoc reviewers, we recently created the “200 Club” celebrating and honoring those reviewers who have done at least…. 200 reviews for JMIG! Wow. This is such an accomplishment we wish to honor them here as well: Ted Anderson, Andrew Brill, Jay Berman, David Boruta, Jon Einarson, Barbara Levy, Javier Magrina, Charles Miller, Malcolm Munro, Togas Tulandi and Chih-Feng Yen.
Another of our exciting initiatives is our official JMIG Podcast on Spotify titled “MIGS Front Page.” Our most recent podcast was an interview with Dr. Ricardo Azziz, an author of “Prospective Cohort Study Quantifying the Effect of the LevaLap 1.0 on the Distance between the Abdominal Wall and Intra-abdominal Viscera. Listen in as we discuss the effects of the LevaLap 1.0 device.
To obtain a better understanding of the roles that the Journal plays, we will be surveying both our readership and Editorial Board members to assess how the Journal is accessed, viewed, and the relative value of JMIG from the perspective of an educational resource, patient care, and scholarly content. This critical information will help guide our future programs and initiatives, so please get involved and send us your views when you receive the survey!
A call for applications is out for an innovative and new Associate Editor position. Candidates with a track record in reviewing for JMIG who desire to be exposed to all aspects of a journal Editorial Board are invited to apply. Participants will become familiar with the manuscript submission, editorial review and decision-making process, and develop a skill set building their foundation for future involvement at senior levels in an academic journal.
JMIG will be taking a new focus on education and we are actively investigating multiple exciting initiatives. These include roundtable discussions from experts on key clinical areas, assessments of simulation platforms and resources, mentorship for performing reviews, and others. A statistics corner helping both readers and researchers understand proper analysis and interpretation of data and studies is on the horizon. We are casting a wide net and anticipate several meaningful resources to come to fruition!
One major goal is to improve the readability of the journal and enhance access to content. Projects include microsummaries acknowledging readers’ valuable and limited time, virtual issues and collections of curated articles, and other innovative approaches modernizing how we relay information.
As always, our goal is to remain the premier journal dedicated to gynecologic surgery as evidenced by our Impact Factor and readership. As we head in 2024, we remain grateful for your support and multiple contributions to JMIG and our collective success.
