The Hybrid Approach
It is often a complicated task to try to predict the future, especially when we are in a field as innovative as this one provided for this organization. Concerns about women’s health leave us eager to develop solutions and new treatments that will have an impact on thousands of lives and will also condition the new understandings of tomorrow. Doing so in such an extraordinary year, when facing and fighting to contain a COVID-19 pandemic adds a great responsibility to this assignment. This year’s AAGL Scientific Program President, my friend Ted Lee had an even greater challenge to reassemble the event’s entire structure and proposal around a virtual model. This experience certainly opens up an incredible virtuous path for our event in 2021.
When looking to the future, we must consider the terrain of the present but also the steps to move forward. When we look up to the international experience and the urgency to adapt, deciding for a hybrid congress seems the natural and necessary choice at this moment. Optimistic about the vaccine’s prospects for next year, our great desire is to design an event that offers the best possible immersion experience and great debates with the distinguished specialists of this house, in a plural and diverse environment to share new learnings and knowledge. An event that enhances AAGL’s excellence, promoting immersive training and an environment of high-level professional and personal exchanges.
In light of all the restrictions and changes that we experience, the urgency and duty to promote a scientifically memorable, safe, and inclusive event is necessary. For this reason, the AAGL 2021 Scientific Program Committee envisions an event that will bring together the best of all the live interpersonal experience with the most advanced in terms of technology and virtual experience. This year promises to be one of the most exciting, innovative and engaging meetings offering an unforgettable “hybrid” experience for those who will be joining us in person and also memorable for those who accompany us from their homes and offices.
In order to broaden the outreach of all the knowledge produced at a congress of this magnitude providing a chance to connect with an even greater and more diverse number of colleagues from all regions of the world is mandatory. Participants who, in the face of financial, physical, or even circumstantial limitations, will be able to integrate directly into this ecosystem and amplify new discoveries and practices.
This year’s Global Congress will fulfill a virtuous mission, going global through technology and new forms of interaction, innovating the way of doing science, promoting global interaction, and redirecting the future of minimally invasive gynecological surgery. We are also celebrating AAGL’s 50th including a year-long celebration which will cumulate at the November meeting!
Welcome to AAGL 2021 – The Future of MIGS – Innovation and Globlization. The Congress microsite and Call for Abstracts submissions opens on February 26th, so stay tuned!
