Developing Leaders in AAGL

The AAGL is committed to fostering new voices and perspectives and is vested in developing our next generation of leadership. The first step towards leadership roles in the AAGL is to get involved! This involvement offers valuable opportunities to build relationships with peers; gain insight into, and influence over AAGL initiatives and processes; and develops leadership experience through meaningful service.
Information about these service opportunities is distributed through the MIGS Monthly eblast, NewsScope, and on AAGL’s social platform, AAGL Connect. It can also be found on the AAGL website: aagl.org.
Here are some of the ways to become more involved within the AAGL:
- Submit a course for consideration for the annual Global Congress when the Call for Courses opens each January
- Submit an Abstract for consideration for the Global Congress when the Call for Abstracts opens each March
- Become a Reviewer for JMIG
- Post and respond to posts on AAGL Connect
- Join an AAGL Committee or Task Force when applications open midyear each year (Open Now!)
- Apply for Board positions when they open annually:

- AAGL Board of Directors application opens each July

- Complex Benign Gynecology Fellowship Board application opens each July

- Attend the AAGL Global Congress each year (Registration Opening Soon!)
Committees Currently Accepting Applications:
The following committees are now accepting applications for a three-year term that begins in January 2027. To apply for a committee, please submit a 2027 Committee Application by June 30, 2026.
- Ethics Committee (2 positions open) – The AAGL Ethics Committee alerts the Board of Directors of ethical issues that arise, reviews ethical considerations that are brought to their attention, formulates recommended responses and actions on any such deliberations, and identifies significant conflicts of interest.
- Membership and Engagement Committee (1 position open) – The AAGL Membership and Engagement Committee reviews trends in AAGL membership and provides recommendations to the Board to support member recruitment, retention, and overall engagement. The committee also evaluates issues related to diversity and inclusion brought forward by AAGL members and makes recommendations to the Board to help foster a more inclusive and engaged membership community.
- Publications Committee (4 positions open) – The AAGL Publications Committee reviews AAGL publications and websites and provides recommendations for ongoing improvement. Publications under the committee’s purview include NewsScope, MIGS Monthly eblast, e-bulletins, JMIG, and other current AAGL publications and communication platforms.
