New on SurgeryU
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, I hope everyone is safe and healthy. One bright light in the horizon is the Annual Global Congress in Austin, Texas. The opportunity to reunite with old friends and colleagues is a welcome return to “normalcy”. I recently had the opportunity to review the program and this year’s Congress promises to be engaging, innovative, and informative. Dr. Mauricio Abrao, the Scientific Program Chair, and his Scientific Program Committee have really taken the theme of “Innovation and Globalization” to heart and formulated what will be a unique experience for all attendees (both virtual and in-person). Registration is open, and I look forward to “seeing” you there!
The Annual Global Congress is always an exciting time for me as the Editor-In-Chief of SurgeryU for multiple reasons. Since all the content is recorded, the meeting becomes my personal “shopping spree” for fresh content for our library. I get excited considering all the new material that we can add to the site to expand our educational mission. This year, I will also be meeting with my new Editorial Board that will be starting in 2022. To ensure the needs of all our members are represented, we have decided to have an editorial board member from each of the SIGs. This change will have positive impacts for SurgeryU as well as AAGL’s membership. These new board members will be responsible for eliciting new content from their SIG members which will ensure that we have variety and breadth to the content created for SurgeryU. Having board members with varied interests and strengths will also be helpful when developing novel projects and applications.
As the summer winds down and we get ready for fall and the 50th Global Congress, I wish all of you the best. I hope to see many of you in Austin or virtually, and I look forward to SurgeryU’s future!
